Brief Description:

Since 1951, Nobel Laureates in chemistry, physics, and physiology/medicine convene annually in Lindau, Germany, to have open and informal meetings with students and young researchers. The Laureates lecture on the topic of their choice in the mornings and participate in less formal, small group discussions with the students in the afternoons and some evenings. The 2015 meeting is interdisciplinary in nature and includes Nobel Laureates from the fields of physics, physiology, or medicine and chemistry. Harvard University may nominate a total four (4) eligible Graduate students in consideration to be part of the American delegation to the 65th Annual meeting, held June 28, 2015 through July 3, 2015. Transportation, lodging and registration expenses are arranged and paid for by the sponsoring agencies. Participants meet for an orientation meeting prior to the start of the Lindau meeting.


Description:

The annual Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings provide a globally recognized forum for the transfer of knowledge between generations of scientists. Lectures of Nobel Laureates reflect current scientific topics and present relevant fields of research of the future. In panel discussions, seminars and during the various events of the social program, young researchers nominated by a worldwide academic partners interact with Nobel Laureates.


Application Information:

Eligible Applicants are asked to submit the following through the Harvard University Funding Portal:

  • A one page (max) essay (10 pt. font minimum, single spaced acceptable): Why participation in the 65th annual meeting of Nobel Laureates is important for your graduate education.
  • A current CV (any format acceptable)

Additionally, within the body of the application, applicants will be asked:

  • To select which funding source they wish to apply through; NSF or MARS, Inc. Applicants who select NSF should only do so if they currently receive NSF funding or have done so in the last 12 months.

  • Apart from which funding source is selected, applicants are asked to provide a brief summary of their research topic







Eligibility Criteria:

A student nominated to participate in this program must:
  • Be a U.S. citizen;
  • Be currently enrolled as a full-time graduate student.
  • Have completed by June 2015 at least two academic years of study toward a doctoral degree in physics, physiology or medicine, chemistry, but not planning a dissertation/thesis defense before December 31, 2015.
  • Be an active researcher who is performing research funded by public or private sources
