FY19 William Randolph Hearst Fund

Description:

The William Randolph Hearst Fund was established at Harvard Medical School in honor of recognition of the efforts and devotion of Isabelle and Leonard Goldenson, and Ethel and Jack Hausman, on behalf of handicapped children.






Application Information:

Please submit the following items as part of your application:

 

1.  Research Proposal (11-point font, single-spaced, half-inch margins., 5 pages including figures but not references) ordered as follows:

a.     Specific Aims

b.     Background and Significance

c.     Preliminary Data (if any)

d.     Research Design and Methods

e.     Bibliography (not counted in the five-page limit).

2. Applicant’s NIH Biosketch and a complete NIH Other Support page (all active and pending support & a statement of overlap where relevant).

3.  Mentor’s NIH Biosketch and a complete NIH Other Support page (all active and pending support & a statement of overlap where relevant).

4.  A simple budget and justification describing how funds will be spent (salary, supplies, services, etc.). Please note that no overhead or administrative expenses are allowed.

5.  Two letters of recommendation, including one from current mentor. Please follow instructions in the portal to submit the letters of recommendation. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that letters are submitted before the deadline using the portal.




Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility is restricted to Research Fellows, Clinical Fellows, and Instructors appointed within the Harvard Faculty of Medicine doing research in the area of brain development with particular emphasis on factors important for the prevention of neuromotor disabilities and on the fundamental neurobiological mechanisms that underlie health and disease during the process of development.  Applicants must be at a PhD or MD-level to be eligible. Faculty at the Assistant Professor level or higher are ineligible.

Review Criteria:

Awards of $50,000 will be made for one year. Funds may be used to supplement support for ongoing research from other sources. Please note that no overhead or administrative expenses are allowed. There is no minimum effort required. The anticipated start date of the award is early 2019.


All recipients of the Hearst funds must provide a brief summary of scientific accomplishments at the end of the award year. Progress reports can be sent to hearst_fund@hms.harvard.edu.
