Brief Description:

The NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) program is designed to encourage the development of new and potentially transformative models for STEM graduate education training. The NRT program includes two tracks: The Traineeship Track and the Innovations in Graduate Education (IGE) Track.

Harvard University is viewed as one institution for this opportunity and may submit to the NSF up to two (2) proposals in each track. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating the internal application and review process for this opportunity.


Description:

The NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) program is designed to encourage the development of new and potentially transformative models for STEM graduate education training. The NRT program includes two tracks: The Traineeship Track and the Innovations in Graduate Education (IGE) Track.

Harvard University is viewed as one institution for this opportunity and may submit to the NSF up to two (2) proposals in each track. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating the internal application and review process for this opportunity.

Applicants are encouraged to review the NSF RFP for this opportunity as priority has been announced concerning certain research areas, including Understanding the Brain (UtB), Innovations at the Nexus of Food, Energy, and Water Systems (INFEWS) and any other interdisciplinary research theme of national priority.


Application Information:

Applicants are asked to submit the following in consideration of either track available:

  • A response to either track. Three pages maximum, 10 point font minimum. Associated graphics and/or references may be placed on blank pages after the written response
  • CV of the PI (no preferred format)
  • CV of the Co-PI, if applicable
Both CVs should indicate any current NSF Funding, as well as NSF funding received in the last five years

Additionally, within each applicant's electronic application dashboard they will be asked to provide answers to the following:
  • Identification of which track they are applying to: Trainee or IGE
  • A single paragraph summary of the proposal in layperson's terms
  • Total funding requested (estimation)
  • Project Period


Eligibility Criteria:

  • Harvard University may submit up to four (4) proposals for this opportunity, two for each track, Traineeship and IGE
  • The number of applications (4) includes applications where Harvard participates as the lead organization on a non collaborative proposal, or as lead organization, non-lead organization, or subawardee on a collaborative proposal
  • An individual may serve as PI or Co-PI on only one proposal submitted to the NSF in response to this opportunity
