The following description and application link concerns The Whiting Public Engagement Fellowship

Proposals for the Whiting Public Engagement Fellowship should be far enough into development or execution to present specific, compelling evidence that they will successfully engage the intended public. Strong proposals will show evidence of both the overall strategy and the practical plan to implement the proposed project. Relationships with key collaborators should already be deeply developed, and, in some cases, the nominee and collaborators may have tested the idea in a pilot, or the project itself may already be underway.

Nominees may propose to direct funds however will best meet the needs of the project. Funding may not be used to cover indirect costs of administering the program.

Application Information:

Applicants are asked to submit the following:

  • A project title
  • Project category (as defined by the Whiting Foundation)
  • A single document that answers the following two (2) questions:
                Who is the intended public for your project? (maximum 50 words)
                What is your project engagement plan? (maximum 200 words)
  • Current CV- highlighting work most relevant to the project and previous public engagement
  • Optional: Project website(s) and samples of other public facing documents that may already be operational


Eligibility Criteria:

  • Eligible applicants must be Assistant, Associate or a Full Professor in the Humanities with at least two full years of service as of September, 2018
  • Tenure is not required. However, if tenured, tenure must have been awarded on, or after, the end of the 2012-2013 academic year. Tenure awarded from an institution other than Harvard is applicable.

This competition is enabled for Proxy applicants. Before beginning an application, Proxies will be askd to located their Principal Investigator in HUFP. If your PI is not registered in HUFP, please ask them to create their profile using their HarvardKey. Proxies should never "Add User" in HUFP.
