Brief Description:
The David and Lucile Packard Foundation's Fellowships provide the nation’s most promising early-career scientists and engineers with flexible funding and the freedom to take risks and explore new frontiers in their fields of study.
Harvard University, as one institution, is eligible to put forward two nominations to the Packard Foundation for this prestigious opportunity. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating the internal application and review process.

Harvard University, as one institution, is eligible to put forward two nominations to the Packard Foundation for this prestigious opportunity. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating the internal application and review process.
Applicants must be faculty members who are eligible to serve as principal investigators on research in the natural and physical sciences or engineering, and must be within the first three years of their faculty careers. Disciplines that are considered include physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, astronomy, computer science, earth science, ocean science and all branches of engineering.
Please note: The internal application process for applicants who have a primary appointment at HMS has already passed for this year.
Application Information:
Eligible applicants will be asked to submit the following (this information will appear again on each applicant's individual electronic dashboard):
A recent CV that includes educational background, honors and award, current external research support and publications
A two page research statement, 10 point font minimum, graphics and/or references may be placed on blank pages at the conclusion of the written work. The research statement should describe why the research is important and outline the general goals for the next five years. The statement should also indicate, in general, how the funds will be used
A recommendation letter from the applicant's department head, which should describe firsthand knowledge of the nominee's ability to do creative research
Eligibility Criteria:
Packard Fellows must be faculty members who are eligible to serve as principal investigators on research in the natural and physical sciences or engineering, and must be within the first three years of their faculty careers.
The applicant's initial faculty appointment, whether at Harvard or another institution prior to Harvard, must have been on or after May 31, 2014 and not later then May 31, 2017.
Disciplines that are considered include physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, astronomy, computer science, earth science, ocean science and all branches of engineering.
