The NSF Partnerships for Innovation (PFI) Program, 23-538, funds technology translation and development based on prior NSF funded research projects from all science and engineering disciplines supported by the NSF.

Within the PFI program there are two application tracks:

    PFI Research Partnerships (RP) (One proposal per institution)
    PFI Translation Technology (TT) (no limit to the number of proposals submitted)

Description:

Application Information:

Applicants will be asked to answer and submit the following:

  • Proposal Title
  • Lineage Requirement: Provide proof of research lineage to meet the eligibility threshold for the PFI PR Track
  • PI-CV, NSF Biosketch Template
  • Co-PI CV, if applicable, NSF Biosketch Template
  • A summary, of the Research Partnership idea being proposed. Five (5) pages max, 12 point font minimum. Associated graphics and/or references may be placed on blank pages after the written summary
  • Name and contact information of partners, either speculative or confirmed at this time: Primary Industry Partner(s), Primary Research Partner(s), Third Party Investor(s)
  • A Facilities and Resources statement (one page, max.)



Eligibility Criteria:

NSF Lineage Requirement:

    All proposals submitted to the PFI program must meet a lineage requirement by having NSF-supported research results.
    NSF-supported research results in all fields of science and engineering
    Principal Investigator (PI) or a co-PI must have had an NSF award that ended no more than seven (7) years prior to the full proposal deadline date, (01/02/2024), or be a current NSF award recipient.
   The proposed technology development project must be derived from the research results and/or discoveries from this underlying NSF award.

The following programs do not meet the NSF Lineage Requirement:
 I-Corps Team award, I-Corps Nodes award, training at an NSF I-Corps Site, any I-Corps-related training imparted by federal agencies or organizations other than NSF, Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU), Research Experiences for Teachers (RET), the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP), SBIR/STTR, and any prior PFI award.

This competition is enabled for Proxy Applicants. Before beginning an application, Proxies will be asked to locate their Principal Investigator in HUFP If your PI is not registered in HUFP, please ask them to create their profile using their HarvardKEY. Proxies should never "Add User" in HUFP.
