The 2020 Innovators in Science Award recognizes a promising Early-Career Scientist's and an outstanding Senior Scientist's contributions to exceptional research of rare diseases.

Harvard University, as a single institution, is limited to putting forward one nominee in each of the two categories mentioned above. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating the internal application and review process for applicants who hold a primary affiliation at a school located on the Harvard campus.



Application Information:

Applicants who intend to apply to the 2020 Innovators in Science Award are asked to share their interest with the Research Administration office at the school where they hold a primary appointment.

The following information will appear again within the electronic application:
  • Applicants will be asked a pre-qualification question concerning funding from Takeda Pharmaceuticals
  • CV, limited to four (4) pages. Please format the CV following the template provided by the sponsor, here
  • Research Summary, 1,000 words max.
  • Rational for Nomination (200 words). The Rationale must be written by someone other than the applicant. The Rationale will be uploaded as part of the final application package, and is separate from Letter of Support (not required at this stage). Applicants may choose to ask prospective letter writers to supply this Rationale, or may choose to ask another party. Candidates need not supply Letter of Support for the internal pre-competition.
  • For Early Career Scientist applicants only, Future Research Plan, 500 words max.

Early Career Scientist Eligibility
  • Since gaining their doctorate degree or equivalent applicants must be engaged in active research for 10 years or less, as of November 22, 2009
Senior Scientist Eligibility
  • Since gaining their doctorate degree or equivalent applicants must be engaged in active research for 10 years or more, as of November 22, 2009

This competition is enabled for Proxy applicants. Before beginning an application, Proxies will be asked to locate their Principal Investigator in HUFP. If your PI is not registered in HUFP, please ask them to create their profile using their HarvardKey. Proxies should never "Add User" in HUFP.
