Brief Description:

The Ono Pharma Foundation's 2021 Breakthrough Science Initiative Awards Program accepts proposals from Principal Investigators involved in original research of Chemical Biology. Ono Pharma defines Chemical Biology as research that deals with the interface between Chemistry and Biology. A specific area under this definition is not specified by Ono Pharma so as not to disqualify potentially innovative and groundbreaking projects.

Harvard University and its affiliated institutions are limited to nominating two (2) proposals to Ono Pharma. The exception to this statement concerns applicants from The Broad Institute. Ono Pharma recognizes The Broad as a standalone institution for this opportunity.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research at Harvard University is facilitating an internal competition  in order to select two (2) proposals to advance to Ono Pharma's 2021 Breakthrough Science Initiative Award.
 

Eligibility Criteria:

• PIs applying must be working at one of the nominating institutions.
• The PI must have a MD and/or a PhD degree.
• The PI must be a young and/or mid-career scientist (15 years or below of experience from starting independent academic position, (Appointed no later than 1/1/2006).
• The PI may not already be engaged in other sponsored research with Ono Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and/or grant program with Ono Pharma Foundation.
• The PI may not apply for funding to amplify current work. However, PIs may research a new idea based on a prior finding of the PI.

This competition is enabled for Proxy applicants. Before beginning an application, Proxies will be asked to locate their Principal Investigator in HUFP. If your PI is not registered in HUFP, please ask them to create their profile using their HarvardKey. Proxies should never "Add User" in HUFP.
