The Brain Research Foundation's Scientific Innovations Award Program provides funding for innovative science in both basic and clinical neuroscience. This funding mechanism is designed to support creative, exploratory, cutting edge research in well-established research laboratories, under the direction of established investigators.

Harvard University, including all schools and affiliated institutions, are viewed as a single institution, and may nominate one, (1), proposal for consideration of this award.

Note: Applicants with a primary appointment at HMS/Quad or a Harvard affiliated institution must apply through the process facilitated by the HMS Foundation Funds Program.


Description:

The Brain Research Foundation's Scientific Innovations Award Program provides funding for innovative science in both basic and clinical neuroscience. This funding mechanism is designed to support creative, exploratory, cutting edge research in well-established research laboratories, under the direction of established investigators.

Harvard University, including all schools and affiliated institutions, are viewed as a single institution, and may nominate one,(1), proposal for consideration of this award.

Studies should be related to either normal human brain development or specifically identified disease states. This includes molecular and clinical neuroscience as well as studies of neural, sensory, motor, cognitive, behavioral and emotional functioning in health and disease. The grant proposal must detail a new research project that is not funded by other sources. This grant is not to be used as bridge funding.

Application Information:

Applicants will be asked to submit (this information will be repeated on the applicant's individual dashboard)
  •     Proposal title
  •     Single paragraph summary of proposal in layperson's terms
  •     A brief summary of the proposed project (2 page maximum, 10 pt font minimum)

The closing paragraph should explain how this research will develop/next steps

References and/or graphics should be placed on blank pages after the written summary, and do not count towards page limit

  •     Biosketch, NIH format. Please clearly indicate either current NIH or other peer-reviewed funding, or such funding in the last three years (2020)


Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be an Associate or full Professor working in the areas of brain function in health and disease
  • Current major NIH or other peer reviewed funding is preferred, but evidence of such funding in the past three years is essential
