Brief Description:

This two-phased award is designed to support the transition of scientists from mentored training to independent research faculty.


Description:

Eligible applicants must currently be in research training positions (post-doctoral fellow, research fellowship) and have no more than seven years of research training following terminal doctoral degree. Applicants cannot concurrently hold an NIH K99/R00 grant. Candidates must be identified through institutional nomination; applications will be accepted only from individuals with the appropriate institution support.

Repeat Nominations:
 Only one repeat nomination of an individual applicant will be considered regardless of award type; the same individual may not be nominated a third time.

Please fill out the online form and attach the following documents as a single PDF:
Summary of proposed research (limit 2 pages including images.  A third page may be used for references)
Nominating letter signed by your department or division head. (Limit 2 pages)
Letter of reference from your mentor (limit 2 Pages)
NIH Biosketch, including past and pending sources of funding.  For current funding include abstract and specific aims and indicate if there is any overlap with your proposal.  (Limit 5 pages).

Style Requirements:

  • 11pt font or larger.
  • No more than 6 lines per inch.
  • Color images are allowed, however any copies will be printed in Black and White.

Review Criteria:

The HMS Foundation Funds Committee advises department heads, mentors, and candidates to be particularly aware of the committee's selection criteria when making nominations:

  • A technically feasible research proposal
  • Applicants with the potential to successfully carry out the research described in the proposal
  • Relevance of the proposal to the mission of the foundation award
  • Career trajectory
  • Letter of support and institutional commitment to the applicant
  • Publications
  • Current funding

Eligible Faculty:  HMS quad faculty only.  Faculty at HMS affiliated hospitals are invited to submit separate nominations for this award.  Please contact your research administration representative for details

Nominations Available to HMS: 1 HMS is allowed to submit one nomination to one of the Pathway Award categories: Initiator, Accelerator or Visionary Pathway Awards.
