The Google Ph.D. Fellowship program recognizes graduate students doing work in the area of computer science and related disciplines. For 2019 Google has expressed priority in the following areas:
  • Algorithms, Optimizations and Markets
  • Computational Neuroscience
  • Human Computer Interaction
  • Machine Learning
  • Machine Perception, Speech Technology and Computer Vision
  • Mobile Computing
  • Natural Language Processing (including Information Retrieval and Extraction)
  • Privacy and Security
  • Programming Technology and Software Engineering
  • Quantum Computing
  • Structured Data and Database Management
  • Systems and Networking
Harvard, as a single institution, may put forward two nominees for this prestigious opportunity. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating an internal application, review, and selection process for interested applicants.

Fellowships include:
  • 2 year Fellowship with opportunity to extend to 3rd year
  • Full tuition and fees (books, health insurance, etc) plus a stipend to be used for living expenses, travel and personal equipment.
  • Google Research Mentor

Application Information:

Applicants are asked to submit the following:

  • Title of dissertation/thesis
  • Identification of which of the twelve fellowship areas the applicant is applying to
  • A current CV (no preferred format)
  • Research/dissertation proposal. Maximum of eight (8) pages, including graphics. References may be placed on blank pages at the conclusion of the written work
  • A letter of recommendation from the applicant's thesis advisor. Please email the letter to Autumn_Bennett@harvard.edu by 12:00 pm EST on 11/05/2018.


Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible applicants will meet the following criteria:

  • Full time graduate student pursuing a PhD in the research areas represented by the fellowships
  • Applicants may come from any department, but must be primarily pursuing research in computational sciences
  • Must attend one of the eligible schools and universities. A student must remain enrolled in the PhD program or forfeit the fellowship award
