Brief Description:

The NIH Director's Early Independence Awards provide an opportunity for exceptional junior scientists to accelerate their entry into an independent research career by forgoing the traditional post-doctoral training period. Harvard University is viewed as three separate institutions for this opportunity. Each institution may put forward two nominations to the NIH. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research will facilitate the internal process for the schools of the Cambridge Campus. Applicants from HSPH and HMS should contact their respective Research Administration offices for information on how to apply to the internal process at their respective school.

Description:

To be eligible, candidates must be within one year (before or after) of completion of their terminal degree or clinical residency at the time of application.

  • A one page resources/facilities statement (size of laboratory space, if needed. Use of/availability of equipment/supplies/resources)

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be within twelve (12) months before or after the completion of their Ph.D. (or equivalent) and must not have served as a post doctoral fellow following a previous doctoral degree for more than one year.
