Brief Description:

The Mallinckrodt Foundation supports early stage investigators engaged in biomedical research that has the potential to significantly advance the understanding, diagnosis, or treatment of disease. This grant program provides $60,000 per year for three years of support to investigators who are in the first to fourth year of a tenure-track position. This support is intended to move the project forward to the point where R01 or other independent funding can be obtained.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating the internal application process for all eligible applicants affiliated with Harvard University except those applicants who hold a primary appointment at HMS or an affiliated hospital or institution.  Applicants who fall into this category must apply through the process facilitated by the Harvard University Foundation Funds program.

Application Information:

Internal applications to the Mallinckrodt Grants Program should include the following materials
(the information below will appear again on each applicant's individual application dashboard once they selected the "Apply" button found in the upper right corner)
  • Description of the proposed research (Limit two pages, single spaced, 10 pt. font minimum. A third page may be used for references and graphics)
  • Biosketch (current NIH format)
  • A Nomination letter from a Department Chair or another senior faculty member or members who can represent the support of the institution and who are acquainted with the qualifications of the applicant and the potential impact of his/her work. The letter should be addressed to the attention of the Mallinckrodt Foundation Trustees



Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants with current R01 funding are not eligible to apply
  • Applicants must be in the first to fourth year of a tenure-track faculty position at the foundation's application deadline (appointed on or after August 1, 2013)
