The internal application to the Rita Allen Foundation’s 2023 Scholars Program has been opened in anticipation of a formal opportunity announcement from the Foundation later this summer. Should the Foundation make significant changes to the 2022 call, the OVPR will amend the internal application as needed and follow up with our Research Administration colleagues.
Application Information:
Applicants are asked to submit the following (this information will appear again on the applicant's dashboard):
A proposal/narrative plan of work.
No more than two pages, 10 point font minimum, including responses to the following:
Description of how a Rita Allen Foundation Scholars Award would enable the candidate to pursue new ideas and take strategic risks (1 paragraph)
Explanation of how this proposal differs from or relates to the candidate's other support projects (1 paragraph)
A third page may be used for related graphics and/or references
A current CV
(Two (2) pages max)
Please do not use the NIH Biosketch, or any other template format from an external funding source
Please include details of current or pending support from other funding sources
In determining which information to present in your CV, please consider this specific funding opportunity, and which of your experiences and honors are most applicable and will present the most qualified and compelling profile in the context of this funding source
A letter of nomination from a Department Chair or Center Director
Letters should be addressed to, "Members of the Rita Allen Foundation Scientific Advisory Committee"
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants should be independent investigators in the early stages of their careers and research
It is preferable that applicants be in the first three years of their appointment (this is taken into consideration in the rating of applications by the Scientific Advisory Committee)
Associate Professors and Senior Postdocs are not eligible to apply
Applicants must have committed start up funds from Harvard
Applicants must have lab space available to them
If selected, Rita Allen Foundation Scholars may not, during the first year of the RAF award, also accept an award from:
Beckman Young Investigator Program
Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences,
Searle Scholars Program
Vallee Scholars Program
Rita Allen Scholars may apply for awards from these organizations that would take effect beginning in year two of the RAF award.
Other sources of funding also may influence selection.

This competition is enabled for Proxy applicants. Before beginning an application, Proxies will be asked to locate their Principal Investigator in HUFP. If your PI is not registered in HUFP, please ask them to create their profile using their HarvardKey.
