Description:
The Quantitative Biology Initiative at Harvard seeks to jump-start new collaborations to solve problems at the interface of biology, mathematics, engineering, and computation. The seed grants will support novel, high-risk projects involving faculty FAS and/or SEAS faculty from different disciplines. We are especially interested in proposals that involve both a compelling biological problem and the application or development of a new technique/approach (experimental, computational, or statistical). Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: cell fate and cellular decision-making, self-organization at the subcellular and cellular scales, and adaptation of living systems. Please see
https://quantbio.harvard.edu
for more information on the goals of the Initiative.
Application Information:
Applications should include
A 2-page proposal (Single spaced, 11 point Arial font) which contains the following sections:
Background: Why is the problem is interesting? Why is an interdisciplinary approach needed?
QBio: How does the proposed research fits into the aims of the initiative?

Biosketches of all PIs. Either NIH or NSF format is acceptable.
Eligibility Criteria:
Each proposal must be led by at least 2 faculty. All PIs must have a faculty appointment in either FAS or SEAS.
Review Criteria:
Proposals will be evaluated in terms of: potential for novel findings, potential to yield longer-term collaborations, and relevance to the goals of the QBio Initiative. Teams that include 3 (or more) PIs who have not previously collaborated will be most strongly favored.
