Brief Description:
The objective of the Brain Research Foundation (BRF) Fay/Frank Seed Grant Program is to provide start-up monies for junior faculty who are working in new research directions in the field of neuroscience. Research funded by the BRF Seed Grant should likely lead to extramural funding from the NIH or other outside funding sources. Seed Grant award are not intended to supplement existing grants.
Harvard University, as a single institution, may nominate one faculty member to the sponsor for consideration.
Applicants with a primary appointment at HMS Quad, or an affiliated hospital, must apply through the process facilitated by

Application Information:
Applicants are asked to submit:
Proposal title
A brief summary of the proposed research project. Include a closing paragraph that explains how the research will develop/next steps (1,400 word count, not including figures or images, as applicable)
-The grant proposal must detail a new research project that is not funded by other sources-
Assistant Professors: The grant proposal must detail a new research project that will generate pilot data that will lead to R01 funding or a comparable outside grant
Associate Professors: The grant proposal must detail new research directions
Biographical sketch, NIH format. Please also include a separate page(s) detailing past, current, and anticipated funding
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must be full time Assistant or Associate Professors working in the area of studies of brain function in health and disease
This includes molecular and clinical neuroscience as well as studies of neural, sensory, motor, cognitive, behavioral and emotional functioning in health and disease
Assistant Professors:
the proposal must be a new research project that will generate pilot data that will lead to R01 funding or a comparable outside grant
Associate Professors:
the proposal should detail the pursuit of a new research direction. A new technique is not considered a new direction unless it pertains to a different are of study
Funds may not be used as bridge funding
Funding may not be used for indirect costs
