Brief Description:

The DOE Office of Science is interested in receiving applications to advance basic research in support of the Department of Energy's Energy Earthshots initiative.

Harvard University, as a single institution, may submit up to three (required) pre-applications in response to this call. Full proposal submission is only by sponsor invitation. There are no limits to the number of applications where Harvard appears as a non lead partner institution.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating an internal application process for eligible applicants.

Applicants will be asked the following (this information, including a list of options in response to questions which require the selection of focus area(s) and program(s), will be displayed on each applicant's electronic dashboard)

  • PI Name, contact information, BioSketch
  • Names and Biosketch(s) of any co-investigators or collaborators
  • Name and email address of anyone who should be copied on correspondence related to this opportunity (grant administrator, research development administrator, other)
  • Proposal title
  • Identification of DOE defined Energy Earthshot area(s) of interest, rated from 1 to 6, with 1 being most relevant and 6 being least relevant
  • Identification of other DOE programmatic areas relevant to the proposal, rated from 1 to 3, with 1 being the most relevant, and 6 being least relevant
  • Total funding requested
  • Proposal summary, 2 pages max., 10 point font minimum. Associated images and/or references may be placed on blank pages at the conclusion of the summary, as applicable

This competition is enabled for Proxy applicants. Before beginning an application, Proxies will be asked to locate their Principal Investigator in HUFP. If your PI is not registered in HUFP, please ask them to create their profile using their HarvardKey. Proxies should never “add user” in HUFP.
