Each Duns# defined campus of Harvard University (Chan, HMS, and Cambridge) is limited to submitting one proposal in one of the three award categories.
The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating the internal application process for interested applicants from the Cambridge campus.

Description:

The American Diabetes Association Pathway to Stop Diabetes Awards are comprised of awards in three categories:
  • Initiator Award
  • Accelerator Award
  • Visionary Award

This following application concerns the Visionary Award. Separate applications for the Initiator and Accelerator awards are available elsewhere in the Harvard University Funding Portal.

The Visionary Award is designed to support established, experienced investigators who are interested in applying their considerable skills to diabetes research.
Awards provide up to five (5) years of research support across two distinct phases.
  • Phase 1 provides up to three years of support at a maximum of $325,000 per year, including 30% indirect costs.
  • Phase 2 provides up to two years of support at a maximum of $325,000, including 30% indirect costs. Phase 2 is contingent upon work done in phase 1.
The maximum combined support for Phase 1 and Phase 2 is $1,625,000.



Application Information:

Applicants will be asked the following:
  • Indicate the "Research Type" being proposed (Basic, Clinical, Translational)
  • Indicate the "Diabetes Type" proposed in the research (Type 1&2, Type 1, Type 2, Gestational Diabetes, Obesity, Pre-Diabetes /Insulin Resistance)
  • Research Abstract 250 word limit. Written in the third person. The abstract will be typed, or cut and pasted, directly into the electronic application. A description of the proposed research strategy(ies), including scientific question(s), and approach(es) and specifically highlighting the relevance to a cure, prevention, and/or treatment of diabetes. Abstracts should not include symbols. Please use the full term instead of a symbol.
  • A current CV, no preferred format. Include any sources of funding-past, present and future/potential. Applicants cannot have previously received national grant support (NIH, NIDDK, ADA< JDRF, etc.) as either a PI or Co-PI, in diabetes or diabetes-related research
  • A budget template is available within the application dashboard. Applicants are asked to download the template, fill it out, and upload it back in to their application


Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must hold independent faculty positions and have demonstrated significant productivity in their current field of research.
Applicants cannot have previously received national grant support (NIH, NIDDK, ADA, JDRF, etc.) as either a PI or Co-PI in diabetes or diabetes-related research.
