Brief Description:

Valued at up to $60,00 per year for four years, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarship provides a generous stipend and yearly allowance for research and travel to support interdisciplinary research and original fieldwork in the social sciences and humanities.
Harvard University, as one institution, may nominate up to six applicants to the Trudeau Foundation. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating and internal application and review process to identify applicants for nomination.

Application Information:

Eligible applicants are asked to submit the following:

  • A three page statement describing current or proposed doctoral research. Please include a description of the project, the methodological approach employed, and how the proposal aligns with one of the four founding themes identified by the Trudeau Foundation, (Human Rights and Dignity, Responsible Citizenship, Canada in the world, and People in their Natural Environment).

  • A current CV (no preferred format)





Eligibility Criteria:

  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents registered full time in a Doctoral program in Canada, or Canadian citizens registered full time in a doctoral program outside of Canada

  • Full time first of second year students registered (or in the process of registering) in a doctoral program in the humanities or social sciences

  • Under the eligibility guidelines for this opportunity Harvard University is a foreign University and is limited to submitting up to six (6) proposals for consideration. Applicants may not apply directly to the Trudeau Foundation.
  • Applicants are encouraged to refer to the Trudeau Foundation's FAQ page for further information concerning eligibility. Additionally, a list of Research Administration contacts by school is available here

  • Please note: "Trudeau Scholarships can be awarded to Canadian citizens studying at an approved foreign university, but the vast majority of the scholarships will be given to candidates pursuing doctoral studies in a Canadian university."
