Brief Description:

The Rita Allen Foundation Scholars Program funds basic biomedical research in the fields of cancer, immunology and neuroscience. Applicants should be in the early stages of their careers.

The T.H.Chan School of Public Health and the schools of Harvard's Cambridge campus may submit a single nomination for consideration. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating the internal call and selection process to identify a proposal for nomination.




Description:

The Rita Allen Foundation Scholars Program funds basic biomedical research in the fields of cancer, immunology and neuroscience. Applicants should be in the early stages of their careers.

The T.H.Chan School of Public Health and the schools of Harvard's Cambridge campus may submit a single nomination for consideration. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating the internal call and selection process to identify a proposal for nomination.

Rita Allen Foundation Scholar grant funds may only be used for direct project expenses, including up to 50% of the Scholar's compensation. No grant funds may be used to support the grant recipient's overhead or other administrative (indirect) expenses.


Application Information:

Applicants are asked to submit the following (this information will appear again on the applicant's dashboard):
  • A proposal/narrative plan of work of no more than two pages, 10 point font minimum, including responses to the following:
  1. Description of how a Rita Allen Foundation Scholars Award would enable the candidate to              pursue new ideas and take strategic risks (1 paragraph)
  2. Explanation of how this proposal differs from or relates to the candidate's other support              projects (1 paragraph)
        A third page may be used for related graphics and/or references
  • A current CV (no preferred format) that includes details of current or pending support from other funding sources
  • A letter of nomination from a Department Chair or Center Director




Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must have completed their training and provided persuasive evidence of distinguished achievement or extraordinary promise in research in one of the relevant fields: cancer, immunology or neuroscience.
  • Candidates should be in the first three years of their tenure track position (the Scientific Advisory Committee takes this into consideration in their rating of applicants)
  • Candidates must have received committed startup funds from their institution
Rita Allen Foundation Scholars may not accept an award from the foundation listed below that would take effect beginning in year one of the Rita Allen Foundation award. Rita Allen Scholars may apply for awards from these organizations that would take effect beginning in year two of the Rita Allen Foundation award. Other sources of funding also may influence selection. Senior postdocs, Associate Professors, and candidates previously nominated are not eligible to apply.

  • The Pew Scholars Program in Biomedical Sciences
  • The  Searle Scholars Program
  • The Vallee Scholars program
