Brief Description:

The Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL) program seeks to advance new approaches to, and evidence based understanding of, the design and development of STEM learning opportunities for the public in informal environments; provide multiple pathways for broadening access to and engagement in STEM learning experiences; advance innovative research on and assessment of STEM learning in informal environments; and engage the public of all ages in learning STEM in informal environments.

Harvard University, as a single institution, is limited to submitting three (3) proposals to this opportunity. There are no limits to how many applications Harvard may appear as a subawardee on proposals submitted by others.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating an internal selection process for applicants interested in this opportunity.

The AISL Program support six types of projects. Each project has an individual funding scale and award duration
  • Pilots and Feasibility Studies
  • Research in Service to Practice
  • Innovations in Development
  • Broad Implementation
  • Literature Reviews, Syntheses, or Meta-Analyses
  • Conferences



Application Information:

Applicants are asked to submit the following

  • Identify which of the six project types relates to the submitted proposal
  • Amount of funding requested
  • Duration of work associated with submitted proposal
  • Proposal Summary, two pages max, 10 point font minimum. References and/or graphics may be placed on blank pages at the end of the written summary
  • Current CV of the PI, and Co-PI, if applicable (no preferred format)
