Brief Description:

The Edward Mallinckrodt Jr Foundation Grant Program provides funding for tenure track faculty members, in their first to fourth year, who hold M.D. and/or Ph.D. degrees, start-up support to move their project forward to the point where R01 or other independent funding can be obtained.  Applicants with current R01 funding should not apply.

Harvard, as a single institution, inclusive of all affiliated hospitals and institutions, is limited to submitting one proposal for consideration.
Applicants who hold a primary affiliation at HMS Quad, or a Harvard affiliated hospital or institution, must apply through the internal process facilitated by the HMS Foundation Funds Office, https://bit.ly/3GNiUoc

Allowable Costs Under this Award:  100% of these funds must be utilized for direct costs.

Application Information:

Applicants will be asked to provide the following (this information will be repeated on the applicant's electronic application dashboard):
  • Summary of proposed research (limited to two, (2), pages, single spaced, 10 pt min. A third page may be used for graphics and or references
  • CV (NIH Biosketch format)
  •  A Nomination letter from a Department Chair or another senior faculty member, or members, who can represent the support of the institution and who are acquainted with the qualifications of the applicant and the potential impact of his/her work.
  • This letter should be addressed to the attention of the Mallinckrodt Foundation Trustees

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D and/or M.D., and be in the first to fourth year of their first appointment (no later than 8/1/2019)
  • Applicants with current R01 funding should not apply.
