Brief Description:

The intent of the Grunebaum Foundation is to provide support to junior Harvard Medical School physician-scientist faculty members with a demonstrated commitment to an academic career in cancer research.   A Commitment by the department chair to the applicant’s career development is expected. The faculty member to be funded by the Grunebaum Foundation will be selected annually by a Harvard Medical School faculty committee in consultation with one or more Trustees of the Karin Grunebaum Cancer Research Foundation.

Application Information:

Applications must be submitted online by Monday, March 19, 2018 by 11:30 pm. 

This is a firm deadline, late applications will not be accepted.

Please fill out the online form and attach the following documents as one single PDF:

1.  A letter of interest describing their personal commitment to a career as a physician-scientist.
2.  A summary of their proposed research project (not to exceed three pages).
3.  A Curriculum Vitae (CV) 

Style Requirements:
Font size must be 11 point or larger
Type may be no more than six lines per inch

Materials must be submitted as a single PDF


Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant must be within the first 5 years of his/her faculty appointment in basic or translational cancer research.  Faculty members who already have R01 NIH or comparable funding are not eligible to apply. The Grunebaum Foundation stipulates that not more than 10% of this $40,000 faculty award will be charged to Facilities and Administration.  Applications for a second year extension will be considered.
